Last week the major indices saw some selling pressure that seemed to wake up implied vol, even just temporarily. The VIX popped above 17 on Friday, its highest level since late May. Here’s how options are pricing this week’s expected moves, a bit more than some of the sub 1 % expected moves of late:
- SPY Expected move this week: 1.3% (Weekly IV 12, Monthly IV 14)
- QQQ Expected Move this week: 1.8% (Weekly IV 18, Monthly IV 20)
The CPI will dominate economic talk this week. That arrives Thursday morning before the bell. But the big story for next few weeks remains earnings. A good chunk of the mega-caps have reported, but the calendar stays busy each day for a while. Here are some highlights this week:
