Stocks were in the green into the open but quickly found sellers back down to the 4500 level in SPX. As mentioned, there is a lot of stock being sold above that strike due to expiry, if the market went below that strike you may see the same thing where it quickly gets bought). Again this is not a conspiracy, it is delta neutral scalping around the strike with heavy open interest. That open interest will be getting rolled by many participants into December expiries throughout the day. And then at expiry, a lot of that gamma will disappear and Monday may feel a little different. As mentioned in the video below though, that happens to correspond with Thanksgiving week where a lot of that option selling may re-occur and gamma may be re-established. But the “severity” of that gamma effect is less to start the week. Hope you enjoy:
